swallow study update

We're back from UNC Hospital and unfortunately, there's been no change in Ethan's swallowing since our last study back in October. :-( Thanks for your prayers, I guess God has better plans than what I was praying for. Needless to say, I am very discouraged by the study results. But the good news is that since Ethan doesn't have his final heart surgery for a couple of years, that we can be "risky" as the speech therapist called it today, and try giving Ethan one un-thickened bottle a day for a couple of weeks. If he doesn't seem to get pneumonia, or bronchitis or any other kind of lung infection then we will be able to try 2 un-thickened bottles a day!

As soon as we find our memory card for our camera, we'll be able to post some new pictures of Ethan so bear with us and pray that we find it soon!

Just happened on your blog...and am glad to see some other bloggers in the Triangle.

I hope you are finding UNC as awesome as I have found it. I haven't personally experienced peds, but I'm a regular visitor there for my own disorder. My friend had a baby with multiple health problems when he was born and they didn't know if he would make it to six months. He was in the care of UNC and he is a happy 6 year old!

Hi, I know all too well what you have gone through. My daughter, Mary Clare, now 8 months old, was born with HLHS and has had her Norwood (at 5 days old) and Glenn (at 6 months old). I hope and pray for little Ethan and you. Things for us are finally getting to a "normal" state and I feel for once that I have a healthy baby! (although I know the third surgery is in a couple of years) Visit our website to see Mary Clare's progress. I know it helps to know you aren't alone in all of this. I'll keep up with Ethan's progress through the blog. Thanks for sharing your little man, he's adorable! Kerri Pennington

Julie,
I know what it's like to get disappointing news/results. With Logan, I think that has been one of the harder parts. You build up this expectation that things are going to get better or easier at some preset (by you) time in the future. When that doesn't materialize, or doesn't materialize when you hope, it's quite a letdown. Good news wouldn't be good news without also the flip side - bad news. God is prepared for the good and the bad. We need to do the same. We need to be solid, faithful, trusting in both the good results, and the "bad". That is true faith and trust. I'm learning with you on how to do that!
